Job Summary
WWL Louisiana, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in New Orleans, is searching for a Senior Digital Content Producer to help lead the day-to-day production of news content across our website, mobile and streaming apps, and social media platforms. This is a senior position on our digital team, reporting to our Digital Director. The person in this role works alongside other digital producers to create and manage the content and audience experience on our digital platforms, but they also help lead the team in identifying content opportunities and prioritizing tasks throughout the day.

The ideal candidate is a journalist at heart and a creative problem-solver with an eye for detail and an insatiable hunger for great content. It’s also equally important to have the qualities of a people-leader – someone who can be a digital ambassador in the newsroom, helping teach fellow journalists and encouraging audience-focused content decisions.

Responsibilities

1. Tracks multiple streams of information to keep up with the daily news cycle.
2. Monitors trends and analytics to determine audience interest and inform editorial decisions.
3. Communicates effectively with teammates and the newsroom.
4. Helps the digital team identify, prioritize, and execute tasks.
5. Guides reporters, photojournalists, and other content creators in digital content needs.
6. Coaches others to find story ideas, confirm info, and research for facts and credibility.
7. Takes initiative in creating content and delegating content creation around key digital audience drivers, like breaking and trending news, weather, sports, and politics.
8. Takes a lead role in advanced digital production/storytelling for special content.
9. Coordinates and manages digital projects and coverage plans.
10. Creates, packages, edits, and publishes digital content.
11. Clips videos from newscasts.
12. Creates/manages content on social media.
13. Sends push alerts and email newsletters.
14. Manages content curation across digital platforms.
15. Sets up livestreams and schedules programming for our streaming app.
16. Performs other tasks as required by supervisor.

Requirements

1. BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field.
2. 1 to 3 years digital content production experience in a fast-paced news environment.
3. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work under constant time pressure and meet deadlines.
5. Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing coverage.
6. Strong news and editorial judgment, with a clear understanding of the tenets of professional journalism, traditional news values, and news writing fundamentals.
7. Strong knowledge of AP style, grammar, and copy editing basics.
8. Highly skilled in creating and packaging engaging, audience-driven content.
9. Experience using content management, photo and video-editing systems.
10. Deep knowledge of SEO best practices.
11. A working knowledge of industry-standard best practices for the major social media platforms.
12. Experience creating a variety of social media content, including graphics and vertical video.
13. A basic understanding of how to interpret and use digital metrics to guide editorial decisions.
