Are you looking for a full-time job helping children and families? Do you enjoy finding just the right book for a preschooler or student? Are you someone who enjoys reading stories and sharing learning activities with groups of children? You could be the right person for our Library Assistant position. This position is in the Macon County Public Library Youth Services Department. You’ll answer informational questions, help people locate what they’re looking for, assist in preparing for and promoting library events and activities, and shelve returned books and other library materials.

Qualifications for the Library Assistant I include a High School Diploma or GED. One year of customer service experience is required. One year of library experience is recommended. The successful candidate should be committed to quality customer service with excellent communication skills. Strong technology skills and attention to detail are a must. Familiarity with current reading trends is needed. Preference will be given to those with previous library experience and those who can work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities for the Library Assistant I include performing public service duties to assist library patrons and staff, helping create and present programs, answering general questions, and offering readers’ advisory for patrons. Work involves frequent public contact and is performed in accordance with Fontana Regional Library (FRL) policies, guidelines, and procedures. Work is performed under the supervision of the Department Supervisor.

The Library Assistant I is a full-time position of 40 hours per week with evening and weekend work required. Starting salary is $10.37 per hour accompanied by generous benefits including paid leave, health insurance, and retirement benefits. The position is available November 1, 2024.
