Description
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, develop students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including listening to a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. Identify, promote, and develop each student's talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Required to hold state certification in Music (license code 800) and designated as "highly qualified."
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and administer a music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develop a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, modifying instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.
- Plan and coordinate rehearsals for, and direct students in, musical programs and performances outside the classroom.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings.
- Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintain inventory records, and ensure equipment is in good working order.
MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including computers and motor vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.

- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to convey information effectively, including giving instructions and directions.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and prepare correspondence, reports, and forms; speak before groups with poise and confidence.

- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information and follow oral and written instructions.
- Numerical Aptitude: Ability to utilize mathematical formulas and apply principles of statistics.

- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle office equipment and tools.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear effectively.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Full-time for ten (10) months. Salary based on state and local salary schedules.
