Intelligence Reporter Job at Politico LLC in Arlington

POLITICO is seeking a smart, aggressive reporter to cover the intelligence community in Washington — revealing administration thinking on the threats facing the U.S. and unpacking the political ramifications of how the government addresses them.

You’ll snag scoops on evolving U.S. strategy on global crises including Ukraine and the Middle East — getting readers “in the room” for internal debates and the shuffling of priorities. You’ll dig in with ODNI, the CIA, NSA and other arms of the federal government’s intel gathering operations, and be ready to cover all sides of the story.

You’ll cover the dynamics of the intelligence community writ large in Washington — how interpersonal dynamics affect policy and who’s really setting the agenda. You’ll also work with colleagues in our expanding operation in Europe.

This position requires a reporter who can break news on one of the most hard-to-source beats out there — all as a new administration takes over the White House and a new Congress settles in. We’re looking for someone with established sources who can quickly broaden their contact list on competitive beats.

The ideal candidate possesses a passion for politics, a thirst for breaking scoops, strong writing skills and a drive to set the agenda in Washington.

You’ll join a team of enterprising and hard-charging reporters covering national security, foreign policy, defense and cybersecurity — both in the U.S. and Europe.

Your work will appear across all POLITICO platforms, including politico.com, the POLITICO Pro subscription service, and our must-read newsletters.

What You’ll Need:

• An excellent grasp of national security policy and politics
• A bank of sources inside the intelligence community
• Established ability to write clearly and accurately on deadline
• Proven ability to break news and handle a demanding, fast-moving reporting job
• Skill in identifying conceptual scoops that stand out from the daily report
