Subsidiary Rights Assistant

W.W. Norton is seeking an assistant for its small, friendly, and busy Subsidiary Rights department. This person will work closely with the Executive Director and Associate Director on a wide range of books. This is an entry-level position based in our New York office.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with audiobook publishers, authors, agents, international subagents, scouts, and international publishers to coordinate support and approvals.
- Submit titles for licensing consideration.
- Process free publicity excerpts and negotiate second serial fees and other assorted domestic licenses.
- Process contracts for international and domestic licensees.
- Track advances and fees and generate monthly reports.
- Answer rights queries (includes managing the department’s general email inbox).
- Take minutes at editorial meeting (assistants rotate).
- Write and distribute weekly department newsletter.
- Manage department database.
- Handle production requests for domestic and foreign licensees (i.e.: cover, text, and image files & providing permission information) & invoice appropriate fees.
- Construct rights guides for bookfairs and general use.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required
- Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City Headquarters
- Ability to multi-task.
- Must be a quick learner, practical, focused, flexible, efficient, and organized.
- A personable team-player with excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail is absolutely essential.
- Must possess strong computer skills including facility with Excel.
Compensation and Benefits*
Currently available benefits include:
- Total compensation for this position is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
