General Definition of Work
Performs complex administrative support work preparing materials for circulation, cataloging materials, maintaining records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Library Director.

General knowledge of basic library procedures, methods and techniques; general knowledge of library circulation functions; general knowledge of library utility, MARC format and AACR2 rules; RDA rules; NC Cardinal Consortium Best Practices; Dewey Decimal System; general knowledge of office procedures and records maintenance techniques; general knowledge of and interest in books including reader interest levels; skill in the use of library equipment, materials and resources; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to operate standard office and computer equipment and perform word processing and data entry; ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons and associates.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in library work or other work dealing with the public, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. If you have student loans and you are selected for full-time employment with Rockingham County, you may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on your William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying payments on those loans while employed full-time by certain public service employers. Local Government Retirement System
All employees in regular full or part time position are required to contribute to the retirement system. Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis. The current contribution amount is 6%.

Other Insurance

- Catalogs, processes and labels library materials for the library headquarters and branches; searches catalog to verify holdings; creates, edits or deletes bibliographic and/or item records in local database
- Processes new book orders; checks invoice against order form; scans and enters appropriate information into the catalog; prepares spine labels; processes new books and other materials.
- Processes and catalogs new materials; which includes attaching barcodes on the book and in the item record; sorts and packs materials to transport to branches.
- Answers telephone; directs callers to the appropriate staff.
- May be assigned other duties in technical services, as required.
