Department Summary
A wide range of student- and faculty-centered services are the cornerstone of the Libraries’ integral role in the University of North Texas community. As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals.
Position Overview
A full-time staff member that is a flexible and integral member of the Library facilities and Operations department. The primary focus of the position is oversight, maintenance, and support for specialty equipment and printers. Including all aspects of safety, ownership, inspections, maintenance, supplies, and operations of specialized equipment and library printers. As a support staff, the position must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a state vehicle to move between the various Library facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows. Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment. Strong leadership skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as engineering, design, or prototype fabrication.
- Experience in project management and training facilitation.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support departmental needs.
- Creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new technologies and techniques.
- Proven experience as a machine operator or technician in a manufacturing or prototyping environment.
- Prior experience in teaching, training, or instructing others on how to use equipment.

Job Duties:
- 60% - Equipment Maintenance and Operation: maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of equipment and tools; perform routine maintenance tasks and calibrations to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition; provide guidance and instruction on the safe and proper use of equipment to Library staff.
- 20% - Safety and Education: assist in development, and routine inspection of safety best practices in the safe use, calibrations, quality and specification adherence of all library printers as well as the specialized maker equipment including lasers, CNCs, embroidery machines, sewing machines, etc. communicate best practices; foster a culture of continuous learning and skill development; adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- 10% - Inventory and Business Continuity: oversee, inspect and maintain inventory of consumables, tools and materials needed to maintain all equipment; research, document and maintain materials for trends, needs, and services for all equipment including manuals, innovations, campus partners, integrations and liaison with vendors and or third parties for warranties and escalated needs.
- 10% - Integrated departmental support: participate in campus, library, and department workgroups and committees as/when relevant to duties, knowledge and responsibilities; back up and assist in department projects, events, and or other responsibilities across the division as is appropriate and needed.
