Position Overview
The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Design Manager to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include:
- Provide management oversight for all phases (programming, design, construction) of the project, including coordinating consultants, contractors, material, and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.
- Prepare estimates, drawings, and specifications to be accomplished by Facilities personnel or by contract.
- Work performed under the supervision of the Campus Planning Manager.
- Oversight of team will include Project Designers and Student design assistants.
- Act as a resource for others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
- Assignments are broad in nature and usually require creativity and originality.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Interior Design and five years' of professional design experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong project management skills.
- Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
- Ability to plan, design, and prepare construction documents.
- Ability to analyze construction documents and codes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in AutoCAD and REVIT, with ability to mentor student workers to increase their AutoCAD and REVIT skills.
- Proficient in SketchUp.
- Proven relevant experience managing medium to large construction projects in the field.
- Experience with estimating and managing contractors and subcontractors.
- Experience working in a university setting or educational institution.
- Excellent communication, management, and organization skills.
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel for estimating.
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of communication styles and personnel at all levels.
- Experience and knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and construction industry standards.
- Possess a strong sense of customer service, and keen sense of responsiveness to concerns.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
Job Duties:
- Provides management oversight for in-house projects involving the development of estimates, schematic design, design development, and construction documents with specifications for construction and renovation projects.
- Coordinates with UNT departments, UNT systems ITSS, and facilities maintenance.
- Utilizes project management software and CAD (AutoCAD/Revit) programs for project management.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision.

- Demonstrates punctuality and follows policies and procedures for absences, time, and attendance.
- Ensures proper training and provides positive feedback for job successes.

Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm & Friday 7:30 am - 2:30 pm
