Merchant McIntyre & Associates is a midsize federal grants and government relations firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., that helps nonprofit clients from the higher education, healthcare, and local government sectors reach their federal funding and legislative advocacy goals.

Merchant McIntyre seeks an experienced Grant Writer who specializes in municipal infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of securing funding for transportation, water/wastewater infrastructure, and other municipal initiatives. The consultant will collaborate with stakeholders and draft compelling proposals to support successful grant applications.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities for municipal infrastructure projects, including transportation, water/wastewater systems, and community development initiatives.
  • Develop persuasive grant proposals, applications, and supporting documentation tailored to specific funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with Merchant McIntyre project managers and clients (including technical teams) to gather project data.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements and deadlines.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of grant writing experience focusing on municipal infrastructure projects, experience with transportation and water/wastewater infrastructure preferred.
  • Proven success in securing funding from federal sources for infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of funding sources such as DOT, EPA, FEMA, and other municipal-focused programs.
  • Familiarity with the transportation infrastructure design and construction process, including project phasing, right-of-way acquisition, or the NEPA and permitting processes, is a plus.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently as an independent contractor.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of grant opportunities for municipal infrastructure projects, including transportation, water/wastewater systems, and community development initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation:

  • This is a 1099 consultant position, compensation commensurate with experience and the scope of work.
  • Compensation range: $60-150 per hour
