We are seeking a skilled and ambitious Interior Designer to lead our newly established in-house interiors team. This role, in collaboration with our principals, will involve creating an interiors sample library, developing new collaborative partnerships, and designing interiors concepts for our portfolio of high-end residential and commercial spaces. Responsibilities include preparing and developing image galleries, materials selections, plumbing and lighting specifications related to design concepts to fulfill our Clients' vision. The Interior Design Lead will also be responsible for sourcing exceptional furnishings, adhering to specified client budgets, setting schedules, meeting deadlines, managing client and collaborator relationships, and ensuring successful project execution. In addition to setting the department standards, the Interior Design Lead will have a future opportunity to recruit a supporting role to help grow and enhance the team’s value in offering our Clients an in-house solution to space planning, and enhanced living. The applicant must have acquired a degree in Interior Design or a related degree in Interior Architecture or Fine Arts with specialization in design arts/tech/design.
Experience in high-end residential design during previous employment is a must . The Interior Designer will collaborate with the Principals and architectural team in tracking project progress, schedules and budgets, as well as be the primary point of contact with consultants, contractors and Clients, for all interior design-related programs on the projects assigned to them. The role will involve project design development as well as document production. Role Responsibilities include:
Lead interior design assignments that include conceptual design, schematic design, design development and construction documents. Assess project scope, timeline, budget, staffing requirements, and key milestones for each project. Develop and oversee design presentations, mood boards, 3D models and visualizations, rendered floor plans and elevations, detailed specifications and drawings, complete construction drawing sets, specification packages, and custom furniture design documentation. Create schedules with accurate product information for all plumbing, lighting, cabinetry, appliances, hardware finishes, and accessories. Oversee technical documentation for manufacturers and artisans, review shop drawings and sketches. Source and specify furniture, furnishings, and lighting. Implement processing and tracking furniture and furnishings orders. Develop sketches, floor plans, and elevations in Revit and AutoCAD that reflect Clients’ need and vision. Manage and follow up on progress of work throughout all phases of design, fabrication, and construction. Conduct site visits, take measurements, conduct site inspections, answer RFIs, review control samples and shop drawings, collaborating with consultants, manufacturers, and contractors, and finalizing the punch list. Collaborate with in-house architects, and consultants such as structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, and various specialty consultants. Schedule trades and vendors for installations, and coordinate all aspects of the installation, as required. Efficiently manage junior interior designer once that person is hired and demonstrate strong managerial and communication skills. Provide strong organizational and relationship management skills throughout each facet of the design process. We are seeking applicants with the following attributes:
Four-plus years of high-end residential interior design work experience is a must. Currently residing in the San Francisco or North Bay areas. An accredited degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Fine Arts with an emphasis in Interior Design. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and SketchUp. Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office experience required. Ability to prioritize workload while working towards completion of multiple tasks and projects. A willingness to sketch out ideas freehand to communicate with project team. Collaborative, passionate about design, and enjoys working with others, as well as open to adapting to the firm’s drafting and CAD standards. Professional interaction at all company levels and with external parties. Extensive knowledge of furniture, fixtures, and equipment specifications, including selection of furnishings, hardware, lighting, coverings, materials, and finishes. Be proficient in space planning, hand and digital drafting. Effective collaboration with vendors, showrooms, workrooms, subcontractors, and partner teams to solve site challenges. Experience in leading, training, and mentoring junior team members. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects.
