Under the direction of the Creative Director, the Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for the creation of professional design solutions for University marketing materials, campaigns, and related materials. The Senior Graphic Designer works closely with team colleagues to develop audience-appropriate layouts for print and online marketing efforts that support the University's brand and initiatives.

Graphic Design and Support

  1. Create, develop, and execute new, while revising existing, design directions/elements for digital and print mediums.
  2. Oversee and manage the workflow of all design projects to graphic designer and outside vendors as needed.
  3. Work both independently and collaboratively with team members and other departments to take projects from idea to completion.
  4. Create or source design elements in support of larger initiatives at the direction of the Director of Brand and Creative Services.
  5. Train, manage, and develop the design knowledge of the graphic designer.

Cross-Media Campaign Management

  1. Manage the creation, development, and implementation of new and existing design directions for digital marketing campaigns including display, email, website, and video components.

Visual Identity Development, Promotion, and Reinforcement

  1. Maintain a clear understanding of University branding and the variety of visual assets (logos, photography, etc.) retained by the University and the design standards that regulate their use.
  2. Apply knowledge of best practices and conceptualization principles to ensure a consistent visual identity is carried out in projects.

Partner Presentations

  1. Present designs to a range of University partners in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  2. Tactfully and professionally defend the design rationale while knowing when compromise is warranted.
  3. Provide direction to other designers, interns, and freelancers on specific projects.
  4. Educate colleagues on specific design, production, project, and software related details.
  5. Work directly with vendors to provide necessary input for project completion.

Art Direction of Photography

  1. Determine photography needs and creative direction for graphic projects.
  2. Plan photo shoots to meet the specific needs of our campus partners and the photographer.

Additional Functions:

  1. Provide assistance to, and share professional design knowledge with, members of the design team, interns, and department.
  2. Occasionally represent the Department at client, University, and external meetings and functions, taking part in presentations when needed.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of four years graphic design work experience.
  3. Intermediate knowledge of Mac computer platform and Adobe CS4 Creative Suite or higher.
  4. Familiarity with working successfully with printers, photographers, and clients.
  5. Ability to lead multiple design projects simultaneously and manage each from conception through production while meeting deadlines.
  6. High attention to detail in typography, spelling, grammar, spacing, and accuracy.
  7. Organizational skills to prioritize, take initiative, follow projects through to completion and manage multiple tasks while ensuring the highest level of quality.
  8. Experience providing art direction, guidance, and assignments to designers.
  9. Proven experience preparing files for a variety of printing processes.
  10. Understanding of best practice for creating digital and social media creative elements and working on websites including the Drupal content management system.
  11. Professional design experience in the field of higher education, advertising, or another related industry.
