Job Summary:

Canterbury Park is looking for an outgoing and energetic individual to join our Marketing and Entertainment team as a seasonal assistant. Responsibilities include assisting with internal and external marketing and communications copywriting, design of promotional graphics, the execution of promotions and/or events on designated days. The right candidate must have graphic design experience, strong communication skills, organizational skills, and possess quality writing silks with an eye for detail. Responsible for supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the various marketing and entertainment responsibilities: promotions, design, communication, event production, and customer service.
  • Learn how to layout promotional elements and copy in a variety of different spaces.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the design process including the ability to create and develop concepts, integrate feedback and carry projects through to the production process.
  • Learn the logistics and organizational skills that go into event marketing and event production.
  • Develop the skills to successfully work as a team with other members of the Departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Creates high levels of morale, fosters teamwork, inspires collaboration, and provides suggestions for growth to management.
  • Create content for promotional email newsletters, and the Canterbury Park ticketing website for special events and concerts on a weekly basis.
  • Design creative promotional materials using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, including digital and video board signage, flyers, email and website graphics.
  • Create content and graphics for Canterbury Park fan engagement, and external marketing outlets.
  • Assist in creating marketing promotions around community nights, external groups, and theme nights.
  • Create unique and compelling graphics for social media advertisements, event flyers, and other promotional materials.
  • Create, distribute, and analyze guest experience surveys for events and concerts.

Other Duties:

  • Coordinate weekly digital signage content schedule.
  • Assist with fan engagement promotions during assigned live race days.
  • Assist with the execution of Canterbury Park’s Ram Trucks Rodeo, Concert and Comedy Series, and other major events.
  • Assist with grassroots marketing initiatives by representing Canterbury Park at a variety of offsite events throughout the season.
  • May be called upon to conduct tours of facility, live on-microphone promotions and taped internal commercials.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Has recently acquired an Associate or Bachelor’ degree in graphic design, advertising, marketing, or equivalent experience in similar industry.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and copy writing abilities.
  • The ability to learn quickly, multi-task, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Must be able to interact with guests, co-workers and vendors in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of horse racing industry is a plus, but not necessary.
  • Email blast experience preferred (Hive or Activity Stream)
  • Knowledge and understanding of advertising, promotions and corporate sponsorship programs.

  • Candidate must have flexible schedule and will be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company, including weekends and evenings from March - October.
