Our libraries could not operate without our brilliant team of Library Assistants. They find ways to connect, inspire and enrich our communities every day, all over the city. You'll spend your day doing a mix of things, including helping our customers by recommending reads, assisting with information enquiries, and aiding with technology needs. We want to recruit people to be library assistants and fill vacancies that come up between now and the end of May 2025.

Qualifications and Experience:
- NCEA level 3 (UE or equivalent) and 12 months customer service experience OR 3 years customer service experience and demonstrated commitment to continuing education.

Additional Information:
Hours of work - please read the information below and indicate your preferences in response to the questions on the application form.
- A Library Assistant job may have between 15 and 37.5 (full-time) contracted hours each week.
- Our libraries are open for a range of hours between 8am and 8pm. It is expected that all hours packages would normally include at least one shift to help close the library at 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm depending on the location.
- A regular weekend day is normally part of a package of hours.

- Our Library Assistants work in 22 different locations across Christchurch. Positions may become available at any of those locations or in an additional team that works across all of them.
- Outreach is the team who take library services outside our buildings to people who have higher barriers to accessing the library. We are based in the Linwood area and travel to our customers all over the city. We serve rest home residents, people who are housebound and organisation run groups amongst many others.
- Network Library Assistants work in almost every library, must have their own motorised transport and are paid mileage. They never work less than 20 hours a week and can work up to 40 hours on a rotating roster which includes regular Saturdays, Sundays and evenings to 8.15pm. It is not suitable for someone who requires fixed days and hours of work.
