2025-2026 Upper School Visual Art Teacher (Grades 9-12)
The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to join our Upper School arts faculty starting in the 2025-26 school year. Our school serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, and is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul.
Position Overview:
The Upper School Visual Art Teacher will teach a comprehensive visual art sequence for Grades 9-12. In addition to introducing students to a variety of skills, media, and techniques in 2, 3, and 4 dimensions, courses will include some art history and an introduction to the work of contemporary visual artists. Typical projects will reflect the multi-layered educational philosophy of Christian Liberal Arts and Sciences. The ideal candidate will be a skilled visual artist and eager to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Arts department as well as faculty in other disciplines and the local community. Candidates should possess a mature Christian faith and an educational philosophy consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement. Most importantly, the candidate should be passionate about working with adolescents and dedicated to fostering their holistic development as individuals created in the image of God.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
- Proven experience teaching high school students
- Strong ability to integrate their Christian faith authentically in the context of their teaching
