Job Description:
This position serves as a Librarian Specialist for the Blind/Visually Impaired in the Division of Blind Services Braille and Talking Book Library, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Working under broad supervision and within time restraints, the employee will assist customers of the Bureau of Braille and Talking Books Library in the most effective use of the service, always following safety standards. Assume responsibility as the staff liaison to a share of the Bureau’s clientele and will work with customers via the telephone, in person and via electronic communication.
Examples of Work:
- The weekly reconciliation of the comprehensive mailing list services report from the National Library Service.
- Process new applications for service.
- Process transfers for service.
- File applications.
- Follow up on LEADS.
- The orientation for new customers to the Bureau.
- The approval for new users of the Braille and Recorded Download Service of the National Library Service.
- Provide assistance with inquiries made to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) Librarian email.
- Understand and recommend assistive technology options for equipment not provided by the Bureau.
- Assist department with projects and reports requiring patron follow-up.
- Attend departmental and all staff meetings regularly.
- Fill in at the receptionist’s desk when needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and professional or nonprofessional experience in library science or in customer service can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, policies, and procedures of library services and programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to prepare reports.
