Broadway Sacramento is currently seeking Scenic Artists for our 2025 Season. Spring productions include Footloose and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Summer productions include Million Dollar Quartet, Hello, Dolly!, West Side Story, In The Heights and Hair. All seasonal positions are paid weekly on Fridays. Housing and travel are available for non-local hires.

Scenic Artists are responsible for assisting with all applied and painted scenic finishes.

Term of Employment: Seasonal, Hourly

Track 1: Full Time, 2/17/2025 – 4/9/2025

Track 2: Full Time, 5/26/2025 – 8/17/2025

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

-Assist in the paint application for scenic elements, fly pieces, furniture and stage floor.
-Assist with the mixing of paint and textures needed to execute assigned scenic projects.
-Report the progress and potential conflicts of assigned projects to the Scenic Charge Artist.
-Appropriately prep scenic surfaces for durability and aesthetics, including filling holes, sanding, priming, and coating foam.
-Apply a variety of three-dimensional textures, such as raised wood grains.
-Authentically age and distress scenic pieces as advised.
-Touch up stock scenery and/or scenery that has been damaged in rehearsal or performance as advised.
-Assist with the painting of the stage floor at changeover by masking, painting, and prepping supplies.
-Occasionally assist in foam carving projects for specialty scenic items.
-Occasionally assist in silk and fabric dying for ground cloths and fly pieces.

Qualifications

-Previous professional experience as a Scenic Artist.
-Knowledge of scenic art techniques including but not limited to color mixing and color theory, faux finish techniques, physical texture applications, and foam carving.
-Demonstrated organizational skills, efficiency, multi-tasking, and ability to prioritize and self-motivate.
-Ability to manage time effectively.
-Possess a strong attention to detail.
-Ability to take direction and see a task out to completion.
-Exhibited self-reliance, creative problem-solving skills and willingness to seek out all possible solutions to challenges.
-Ability to plan ahead and anticipate potential setbacks.
-Ability to work both independently and as a positive team member.
-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and timelines.
-Ability to work long shifts and overtime hours while maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude.
-Portfolio presentation, demonstrating utilization of color, texture and technique.
-Demonstrate behavior showing a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Perform work consistent with that commitment. Interrupt behaviors that hinder diversity and inclusion efforts.

Physical Requirements

-Frequently required to use repetitive hand motions and to reach and bend.
-Ability to stand for 8-10 hours per day.
-Ability to be fit with and wear a respirator when necessary.
-Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to the height of 3 to 4 feet safely.
