We are seeking an experienced reporter to join the dynamic team covering the technology sector to focus on the nexus of the tech industry and power.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technology landscape and its intersection with the political sphere both in the US and abroad, as well as exceptional writing skills, experience covering tech news, and a track record of breaking significant tech stories.

Job Title: Tech and Power Reporter

Location: New York City - The position can be based in our New York City or Los Angeles offices, or the Bay Area.

Job Type: Full-time, one-year contract

Salary: $93,304.64 - $99,524.94

Responsibilities
  • Research, report, and write compelling news stories, ranging from rapid investigations, to features or analysis pieces.
  • Balance new coverage with original features and analysis on technology-related topics.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and developments to identify and pitch timely and relevant story ideas.
  • Develop and maintain a network of sources within the technology sector.
  • Collaborate with editors and other reporters to ensure comprehensive and accurate coverage.

Skills and qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of the technology industry
  • A deep understanding of the sectors' intersection with politics, in the US and elsewhere
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent news judgement and ability to generate exciting and original story ideas on the most urgent and consequential tech news topics
  • Commitment to editorial independence and understanding that good reporting will be both tough and fair in its coverage of the industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a technology reporter or in a similar role.
  • Experience writing and editing technology coverage for a fast-paced digital news publication
  • Experience writing and editing stories in different formats and at various speeds, ranging from breaking news, to explainers, features and enterprise work.
  • Experience balancing short term and long term deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
