Responsibilities
- Communication Preparation Activities (30%):
- Develop a comprehensive communication plan for the school's overall public information and outreach efforts.
- Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies for public-relations operations, with student and staff privacy at the forefront (understanding FERPA).
- Prepare factual, compelling presentations to support the interest, goals, and strategic plans of the school.
- Prepare information for legislative committee meetings, Board of Public Education meetings, and other public groups interested in MSDB.
- Communication Routines (40%):
- Develop, edit, and promote informational materials about school activities and programs through various mediums.
- Release informational materials via press releases, websites, and social media.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with external stakeholders to promote the school.
- Represent the school to internal and external community groups.
- Work with the superintendent to respond to information requests.
- Update school websites with news and promotional materials.
- Ensure effective and consistent messaging in all communication areas.
- Education Office Manager (25%):
- Serve as one of the first points of contact for the school, greeting visitors and assisting them.
- Prioritize communication with parents and caregivers, maintaining knowledge of individual student circumstances.
- Record and prepare logs of staff leave hours and manage leave requests.
- Communicate schedules with paraprofessionals and substitutes daily.
- Coordinate van runs with the high school schedule and communicate with drivers.
- Maintain a professional and inviting education office environment.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%):
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working on projects from beginning to end
- Experience with social media and other communication methods
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or journalism
- Two years of directly related experience
- Other combinations of education and experience can be considered
- Preferred experience providing support to executive staff
