Job Description - Public Relations Specialist (25140301)

Position Title: Public Relations Specialist - (25140301)

Communication Preparation Activities (30%):

  1. Develop a comprehensive communication plan for the school's overall public information and outreach efforts. This can include influencing others to join the mission and vision of the school.
  2. Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies for public-relations operations, including student and staff privacy at the forefront. Understand and apply FERPA.
  3. Prepare factual, compelling presentations to support the interests, goals, and strategic plans of the school.
  4. Prepare information to be presented at legislative committee meetings, Board of Public Education meetings, and other public groups interested in MSDB.

Communication Routines (40%):

  1. Develop, edit, and promote informational materials about school activities and programs across a wide variety of mediums.
  2. Release informational materials through various communication methods, such as press releases, websites, and social media.
  3. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with external stakeholders to promote the good work at MSDB.
  4. Occasionally represent the school to internal and external community groups, including other state agencies and media.
  5. Collaborate with the superintendent to respond to requests for information.
  6. Update school websites with exciting news, image enhancements, and promotional materials.
  7. Ensure effective and consistent messaging in all areas of communication.
  8. Serve as a primary point of contact for the school when interacting with the public, including greeting visitors and answering phone calls professionally.
  9. Prioritize parent and caregiver communication over all other duties, maintaining knowledge of individual student circumstances such as attendance and scheduling changes.
  10. Record and prepare logs of all staff leave hours for bimonthly pay periods and manage the staff leave request calendar.
  11. Communicate schedules with paraprofessionals and substitutes by 7 AM daily and coordinate changes as needed.
  12. Coordinate van runs with the high school schedule and communicate with drivers, also driving students when necessary.
  13. Ensure the main education office is professional and inviting, maintaining cleanliness and reflecting the school's beliefs.
  14. Understand school policy and procedures adopted by The Board of Public Education.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%):

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Experience working on projects from beginning to end
  3. Experience with social media and other communication methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or journalism.
  2. Two years of directly related experience.
  3. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  4. Preferred experience providing support to executive staff.

Salary: $26.60 - $29.93 Hourly
