Position Title: Student Worker - Student Financial Services - Selinsgrove Library Clerk

Position Summary

Gelnett Library in Selinsgrove is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused individual to join our library team as a Library Clerk. The Library Clerk plays a crucial role in providing exceptional service to our patrons and ensuring the smooth operation of library activities. In this position, you will focus on various tasks related to customer service, administrative duties, and supporting library programs. Your enthusiasm for helping people and your attention to detail will be valuable assets in this role. This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible, non-exempt position as defined by FLSA standards.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patrons in a friendly and professional manner. Answer inquiries, provide information about library services, and assist with locating materials.
  • Efficiently handle the check-in and check-out process for library materials. Process library card applications, update patron records, and assist with fine and fee transactions.
  • Support the planning and execution of library programs and events. Help with set-up, registration, and coordination of activities during events.
  • Aid patrons in using library resources, including computers, databases, and digital materials. Provide basic technology assistance and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Ensure that library spaces are organized, clean, and welcoming. Assist in organizing displays and promotional materials within the library.
  • Assist in various administrative duties, such as data entry, filing, and maintaining library records. Provide support to library staff as needed.
  • Process hold requests, interlibrary loans, and other patron requests efficiently and accurately.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with diverse patrons.
  • Basic computer skills. Preferred familiarity with library databases and digital resources.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting library services and resources within the community.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • First year, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. All Majors.
  • No experience required. Customer service job history preferred.

Location

This student worker position is located off campus at Gelnett Library (1 North High Street) in Selinsgrove, PA.

Additional Requirements

  • This position is paid $8.50 per hour with estimated 15 hours per week.
  • Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9-7, and Friday-Saturday, 9-5.
  • This position is specifically searching for someone with availability on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Must be approved for Federal Work Study.
  • The library is a short walk from SU Campus, but transportation will not be provided.

Physical Demand

  • Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Position requires the ability to move about the library.
  • Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction.
  • Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach.

  • Position occasionally requires lifting 20-lb stacks of books.
  • Working conditions are indoors.
