GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the Manager or designee, the Library Assistant I will initially be assigned to one area of responsibility as the Major Area of Responsibility (MAR). The area of responsibility will consist of three stages of duties based on established competencies. Staff will be evaluated by a measurement framework designed around knowledge, skills, and abilities. To reach the next stage in a particular area of responsibility, staff must show that they have successfully achieved the specified competencies within the frameworks for that stage.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Type of Work
- Interprets and implements policy.
- Develops and organizes procedures for Major Area of Responsibility.
- Provides assistance to customers - phone, email, and in person.
- Analyzes, interprets, and answers inquiries utilizing LSL resources.
- Resolves operational problems and provides first-level troubleshooting of library systems.
- Recognizes when to refer issues/questions on to librarian or supervisor.
- Processes requests and material.
- Runs reports.
- Performs bibliographic searching and verification.
- Applies knowledge of Integrated Library System modules and other resources and systems required by MAR.
- Conducts basic searches in library databases.
- Works as part of a team on special projects as assigned.
- May functionally supervise in MAR.
- May represent the library at consortia task force meetings as requested.
- Other duties as required.
- Upon hire, will train in MAR. Expected to reach Developing stage of MAR by end of probation period.
- Expected to reach Accomplished stage of MAR within one year from date of hire. Competencies at Accomplished Stage are:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Associate's degree required.
- 3 years related experience; library experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong commitment to innovative and responsive public service.
- Working knowledge of current computer technologies in libraries preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and to contribute positively to a collegial team environment.
