GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Managing News Media Producer or designee, the Multimedia Content Producer supports the Office of Communications and the overall mission of the Medical School by working as a creative story teller who uses writing, photos and video to highlight the research, educational, clinical and service achievements at UMMS and the importance of health science research. The Multimedia Content Producer uses social and digital media tools to its highest power to expand the reach of the Office to key internal and external audiences and is adept at using social media to enhance the reputation and profile of the Medical School.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as a key member of the OC editorial team to identify, develop, publish and promote multi-media content on UMassMedNow, external media and social and digital media channels.
  • Uses understanding or organic and paid social media tools to expand reach of UMass Medical School content.
  • Identify and develop news and feature stories of all platforms.
  • Develop, pilot and implement strategies that use digital and social media tools to attract and support visitors to UMassMedNow and social media channels.
  • Use standard analytical tools to assess audiences for UMassMedNow and social media reach.
  • Help shape content for search engine optimization.
  • Actively seek new ways for the Medical School’s social media presence to be more effective by suggesting new features, integrating new tools, and researching changes in technologies
  • Collaborate closely with members of the OC team to develop and tell stories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-4 years relevant professional experience, preferably in an educational setting or newsroom
  • Demonstrated understanding of the power of social media to amplify messages and reach key external and internal audiences
  • Excellent writing, editing and story development skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of social media
  • Comfortable meeting with faculty, leadership, students and other colleagues to identify and write a variety of stories.

This job requires good judgment and decision-making skills and an understanding of strategic communication priorities. Some off-hours and weekend work required.
