Position Summary
Meals on Wheels America is looking for a passionate Social Media Specialist to join our marketing team. In this role, you’ll have direct responsibility for engaging our community of supporters, donors, volunteers, and advocates through powerful and creative social media content. This position will identify opportunities and innovative ways to raise awareness and build relationships that solve the toughest problems facing America’s seniors. This role is responsible for developing clear and engaging content and executing our social media strategy across various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and others.
The position reports to the Senior Manager, Digital Engagement and is an Arlington, VA based, flexible hybrid working role. There is no weekly in-office requirement; however, the ability to visit the office as needed is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify goals, objectives, key audiences, and roles for each platform in collaboration with Senior Manager, Digital Engagement and plan content according to those goals and the annual Marketing calendar.
- Build and nurture relationships with followers across social media, finding ways to interact with and grow the community.
- Monitor, respond to, and manage comments, questions, and concerns across social media posts, ads, and inboxes.
- Curate and share relevant content, including news, articles, and updates related to Meals on Wheels America and our mission.
- Develop and execute social media strategies to increase engagement and grow our following while driving engagement across all platforms.
- Lead influencer outreach and engagement opportunities.
- Work with the team to identify and execute paid social media opportunities to boost reach and engagement.
- Ensure all posts are proofread and edited for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Work with the larger team to build social media content for fundraising, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.
- Collaborate with the creative team to develop compelling graphics, videos, and social media assets.
- Partner with the Communications team and external agencies on how thought leadership efforts come to life on relevant social platforms.
- Set and measure KPIs and report on the performance of social media platforms and campaigns, providing insights on engagement, growth, and overall impact.
- Stay up to date on emerging social media trends and tools, applying them where appropriate to improve our strategy.
- Regularly test and experiment with new tactics to increase follower engagement.
- Willingness to work outside of regular business hours in rare situations.

Qualifications and Skills Required
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in social media management and communications.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to craft engaging and concise copy for social media.
- Ability to adopt the voice of Meals on Wheels America while maintaining authenticity and creativity.
- Strong social media listening and customer service skills.
- Proficient in using Canva to create graphics and edit videos.
- Experience with social media management tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar platforms.
- Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
- Passion for the mission of Meals on Wheels America and making a difference in the lives of seniors.
- Knowledge in SEO, graphic design, and paid social a plus.
