Job Role Summary

Reporting to the Chief of Administration with oversight by the Manager of Media Relations and Public Affairs, the Public Relations Strategist assists with the development and coordination of public relations and communications activities for Indianapolis EMS. This position will coordinate Indianapolis EMS’s social media and digital communication outreach efforts for both internal and external audiences.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Participates in the development and implementation of communication and outreach strategies to enhance the positive image and brand of Indianapolis EMS to both internal and external audiences.
  2. Coordinates social media messaging on sites such as Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc., including creation of campaigns and ensuring Indianapolis EMS maintains an active and strategic presence.
  3. Writes and distributes internal email communications daily and as needed.
  4. Coordinates event photography and other photography and videography projects as needed.
  5. Develops solid and effective relationships with other organizations through social media.
  6. Maintains robust, accurate, and up-to-date social media database and contacts.
  7. Conceives, develops, and executes creative ideas and opportunities for social media posts and helps integrate media pitches through social media that promote awareness of Indianapolis EMS and its services.
  8. Responds to social media inquiries within a reasonable amount of time, as outlined in a developed social media plan.
  9. Monitors the quality and effectiveness of social media programs, including benchmarking and monitoring social media placements.
  10. Assists with various special projects related to Public Affairs & Communications activities including marketing, public relations, corporate communications, community relations, and health promotions.
  11. Serves as a content developer, staff writer, and editor on appropriate internal and external publications and other communication tools.
Associated Job Duties
  1. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Manager of Media Relations and Public Affairs and members of the Indianapolis EMS leadership team.
  2. Serves as backup for media relations efforts.
  3. Serves as a personal tour guide for VIPs on an as-needed basis.
Job Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, journalism, or related discipline required.
  2. A minimum of two years progressive professional experience in communications preferred, but not required.
  3. Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Superior customer relations abilities.
  5. High levels of accuracy, productivity, and good judgment required in developing and maintaining a positive public image of Indianapolis EMS.
  6. Detail-oriented and capable of handling multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  7. Able to work independently and utilize excellent judgment in relating with colleagues at all levels.
  8. Valid Indiana driver's license that meets Indianapolis EMS’s driving policy requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Adept at presentation graphics programs.
  2. Demonstrates excellent script writing skills, creative listening/interviewing skills, sound project development and management skills.
  3. Able to facilitate and lead work groups.
  4. Demonstrates ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with senior management, physicians, and outside organizations.
  5. Advanced computer skills required, including social media, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Exact Target (and other e-marketing tools), and Outlook; able to conduct Internet and other kinds of research.
  6. Appropriate infection control, sterile techniques, safety, patient rights, and confidentiality for use when performing work in clinical settings.
  7. Ability to work independently.
  8. Exercises initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  9. Communicates clearly at all times.

  3. Maintains confidentiality of information: departmental, hospital, and administrative.

Contacts - Internal/External
  1. Inter/intra-departmental contacts with all levels of Indianapolis EMS, IU School of Medicine, Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County personnel and their respective affiliates.
  2. Contact with outside organizations and individuals, including advertising agencies and other vendors.
  3. Contact with news media.

  12. Possess normal color perception.
Working Environment
  1. Patient care areas, clinics, nursing offices, general office, and hospital setting.
  2. May be required to attend meetings or perform work remote from clinic or hospital campus.
  3. Public events.
