Our client is looking for an Assistant News Director to join their experienced team of managers to help lead a team of hungry, creative journalists. You’ll be responsible for setting the daily editorial strategy and working with broadcast and digital producers to execute that strategy across several platforms, including Madison’s most popular news website. Do you love holding the powerful accountable? In this role, you’ll also help lead the station's award-winning investigative and special projects team. You will help with budgets, help recruit new talent and coach and train both veteran and emerging journalists. All of this while working for a company that values YOUR time away from work. We want to set you up to lead a newsroom of your own the right way while keeping perspective about a life outside of news. What you’ll do: Work with producers, anchors, and production team on visual and content execution of broadcasts. They need someone with prior experience in showcasing and a creative eye Work with News Director on long-term newsroom strategy Assist News Director with budgets, recruiting, coaching, and special event planning Work with other station departments on sponsorships and promotions Directly supervise news reporters and weather anchors What you’ll bring:At least five years of experience in a television newsroom At least two years of management experience Track record of success in newsroom positions Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Communications, Journalism, or other related fields Desire to lead and coach others Extremely organized, strategic thinker Able to direct others – both above and below – on content and strategy Understanding of target audiences and metrics of success on TV and digital A clear understanding of journalism rules and laws, as well as journalists’ rights to records and meetings Outside-the-box ideas and solutions to standard problems Aspirations beyond the Assistant News Director position What the company offers:They are a dynamic and progressive family-owned business that values their employees, their culture, and their community.
