The Designer at LEL International is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and layouts for structural components, assemblies, and systems. This role requires proficiency in CAD and a strong understanding of structural and electrical design principles. The Designer will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet technical, safety, and functional requirements. This position involves managing large Bills of Materials (BOMs), conducting design iterations, and providing technical support during the production and installation phases.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Drafting and Design: Create detailed technical drawings for structural components, assemblies, and systems using CAD. Design and layout conduit runs, ensuring efficient use of space and compliance with relevant codes and standards. Develop and maintain large BOMs, ensuring all components are accurately specified and documented.
  • Design Iterations: Work through multiple design iterations, incorporating feedback from engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders. Revise and update drawings and models to reflect changes in design specifications and project requirements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the engineering team to ensure designs meet technical, safety, and functional requirements. Participate in design reviews and project meetings to provide input and gather feedback.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct self-checks and peer reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards. Maintain high-quality standards in all drawings and documentation, minimizing errors and discrepancies.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all designs, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs. Ensure all documentation is properly stored, indexed, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to manufacturing and construction teams during the production and installation phases. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues that arise during fabrication and assembly.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • CAD Proficiency: Proficient in using CAD software to create detailed technical drawings and layouts.
  • Structural and Electrical Design: Strong understanding of structural design principles and practices, as well as experience with conduit layout and design.
  • BOM Management: Ability to manage and maintain large Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Quality Assurance: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to conduct thorough self-checks and peer reviews.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with relevant codes and standards for structural and electrical design (e.g., NEC, IEC, ASTM).


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Education: Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, design, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in drafting and design, preferably in a structural or industrial context.


Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be required for project site visits or to manufacturing facilities.
  • Less than 5%

Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and occasionally visit project sites or manufacturing facilities.
  • Environment: Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
