Hiring Range: $20.00 - $25.00
This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
Schedule: Full Time 40 hours per week, Benefit Eligible
M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm
Works one evening per week 11:00am - 8:00pm
Rotating weekends

The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all. This position leads age-appropriate programs for teens, emerging adults, adults, and seniors. Some responsibilities may include teaching digital literacy classes, technology tutoring, resume workshops, book clubs, and other relevant programs. The Library Associate represents the library in the community, facilitating outreach and fostering collaborative partnerships with local organizations.
The Library Associate participates in branch teams, system-wide teams, and works collaboratively with staff across divisions to bring innovative and relevant programming to the community. Strong programming and outreach experience is highly desirable, along with a demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships with patrons and external partners.
Responsibilities also include circulation tasks, staffing service points such as the information and circulation desks, and assisting customers of all ages with technology. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative team player and a strong individual contributor with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Sugar Creek Library is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology and computer assistance and research and readers’ advisory. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty. Previous experience with branch operations, opening/closing a facility, and cash handling procedures is required. This position involves a rotating schedule including evenings and weekends. The Library Associate should have strong technology and computer skills.
Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
- Prepare program reports
- Perform circulation activities
- Create and deliver programs to age-appropriate audiences
- Provide research and computer assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Provide service desk coverage
- Assist customers at several service points
- Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
- Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
- Assist with volunteer management
- Promote and market library’s programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/Experience:
- Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual - Spanish-speaking
