Anticipated Pay Range: $21.73 - $23.00
Pay Range Information: Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary: The Library Assistant III provides library support and is located at the Rinker Campus in Irvine. The Library Assistant performs and coordinates specialized library functions including but not limited to circulation, stacks or collection maintenance, technical processing, gathering statistics and library outreach. Provides student, staff, faculty, and community patron assistance including responding to in-person, telephone, and other inquiries. Participates in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising student employees. Conducts machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of photocopier and digital displays. Provides routine transactions such as managing study room reservations, charging, discharging, and renewing materials. Comprehensively explains library policies and procedures, resolves problems, and assists in the acquisition of library materials. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Provides student, staff, faculty, and community patron assistance including responding to in-person, telephone and other inquiries.
- Hire, train, schedule and supervises student employees.
- Conducts machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of photocopier and digital displays. Provides routine transactions such as managing study rooms reservations, charging, discharging, renewing, and reserving materials.
- Comprehensively explains library policies and procedures, resolves problems, and assists in the acquisition of library materials.
- Collects and compiles statistics including patron counts, activity in circulation, and collections. Prepares reports regularly and as needed.
- Assists with outreach events and updating digital signage.
- Handles incoming and outgoing department mail.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one year professional work experience at a library or an equivalent combination in education and experience related to the position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of library technology, processes, and procedures, preferably in an academic library.
- Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve disputes.
- Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to carry out and assign prioritized multiple projects.
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner, make appropriate decisions based on sound judgment, policy, and guidelines.
- Technical aptitude to learn new computer applications and administrative systems.
- Ability to understand, discuss and apply policies, procedures and proposed changes, as directed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to hire, train, schedule and supervise student employees.
- Ability to competently use Sierra, WorldCat, scanners, personal computers, mobile devices, and photocopiers.
Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is scheduled to work 40 hours a week. A flexible work schedule is required. Scheduled shifts will vary from opening, afternoon and closing shifts based on the library's needs including weekends.
