Job Summary

California Oregon Broadcasting, Inc. in the beautiful Rogue Valley is looking for a skilled and dedicated Broadcast Network Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, reliability, and performance of our broadcast network infrastructure. This position requires a solid understanding of networking, broadcast systems, and troubleshooting techniques, along with a commitment to ensuring the seamless delivery of high-quality content across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Network Management: Design, implement, and maintain broadcast network infrastructures to support live broadcasting, production studios, and transmission systems.
  2. System Monitoring: Monitor and troubleshoot broadcast and network systems to identify and resolve any issues, minimizing downtime and disruptions.
  3. Configuration & Maintenance: Configure and maintain routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and other networking equipment. Regularly update and patch network systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
  4. Broadcast Equipment Integration: Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate broadcast-specific hardware and software systems (e.g., video servers, routers, transmission equipment) into the network infrastructure.
  5. Performance Optimization: Ensure that network performance meets the requirements for high-definition video delivery, ensuring minimal latency, packet loss, and bandwidth-related issues.
  6. Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical support for the broadcast team during live events, troubleshoot technical problems quickly, and assist with any network issues that may arise.
  7. Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation on network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes to ensure consistency and efficiency in operations.
  8. Compliance & Security: Ensure the network complies with all applicable broadcast standards and industry regulations. Implement security measures to safeguard the network from unauthorized access or threats.

Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, Broadcast Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience:
    1. Proven experience as a Broadcast Network Administrator or similar role in a broadcast, telecommunications, or IT environment.
    2. Strong experience with broadcast systems and related technologies (video/audio encoding, video servers, streaming protocols).
    3. Hands-on experience with network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networking, etc.).
    4. Familiarity with broadcast automation systems, IP-based workflows, and remote broadcast technologies.
  3. Skills:
    1. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly under pressure.
    2. Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, etc.).
    3. Knowledge of broadcast-specific technologies (SDI, NDI, MPEG-TS, etc.).
    4. Proficient in network monitoring tools and software.
    5. Familiarity with network security practices and VPNs.
    6. Ability to work well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
    7. Strong communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent broadcast/network certifications.
  2. Experience with cloud-based broadcast systems and workflows.
  3. Knowledge of multicast and unicast video streaming technologies.
  4. Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed for live broadcasts.

Salary

$45,000-68,000 DOE

Schedule

Full-Time; Monday-Friday

KOBI-TV NBC5/KOTI-TV NBC2 is licensed by the FCC; therefore, we must follow federal guidelines. Since marijuana is still illegal on a federal level, if offered a position, a candidate is required to pass a 10-panel drug screen, which does include marijuana. A 3-year driving record check and a 7-year criminal background check are also pre-employment requirements, for a candidate offered the position.
