Job Summary

FHSD is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Hearing Impaired to support students with hearing impairments by providing direct instruction and consultation services. The successful candidate will develop individualized educational programs, collaborate with staff and families, and ensure access to curriculum and communication resources for students ranging from early childhood to high school.

Key Responsibilities Assessment:

Evaluate students' auditory and communication abilities to determine needs and develop appropriate accommodations and instructional strategies. IEP Development:

Collaborate with educational teams to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Accommodation Plans. Instruction:

Provide direct instruction in communication skills, auditory training, speechreading, and academic subjects as needed. Assistive Technology:

Train students and staff on the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, and other assistive listening devices. Collaboration:

Work closely with parents, teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other professionals to support students' learning and communication needs. Accessibility:

Ensure that students have access to appropriate classroom accommodations and modifications. Advocacy & Training:

Educate school staff about hearing loss and its impact on learning, providing in-service training as needed. Monitoring & Reporting:

Maintain records of student progress, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field Missouri Teacher Certification in Deaf/Hearing Impaired K-12 Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferred Proficiency in sign language and/or spoken language instruction preferred Knowledge of hearing assistive technology and accommodations Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional methods for students with hearing impairments Strong collaboration and communication skills Work Environment

Physical Demands:

Some lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; occasional stooping and kneeling. Requires clear verbal communication and the ability to model sign language when applicable. Work is performed in various educational settings, requiring travel between schools.
