We are currently seeking a Grant Writer who is passionate about financial literacy in our community to join the Minnesota Financial Empowerment Initiative! This role applies to new grants to provide financial support to the organization and research new and upcoming grants.
- Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization while collecting necessary data.
- Research grant opportunities from corporate, private and family foundations.
- Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
- Submit proposals to the Executive Director in a timely manner for approval.
- Assist with responses to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
- Maintain positive relationships with fund providers.
- Assist with maintaining records and updating grant calendar with dates to submit reports related to grant opportunities.
Job Description: A Grant Writer for MNFEI assists with researching, drafting, and submitting proposals to secure funding from corporate, private and family foundations, and other funding sources. This role requires meticulous research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization goals and mission. The Grant Writer will assist staff and board in understanding the requirements and criteria for each grant, ensuring that every proposal is tailored to meet these specifications. Developing compelling narratives that highlight MNFEI’s strengths, needs, and the impact of its work is a critical aspect of the role. This involves crafting clear, persuasive, and well-organized documents that effectively communicate the organization's objectives and the benefits of the proposed projects or programs.
Additionally, the Grant Writer must be adept at effectively communicating the significance and potential impact of the organization’s work to persuade funders of its value, thereby securing the necessary resources to advance the mission. The position is remote, with the exception of occasional in-person meetings, with flexible work hours up to 10 hours/week at a pay of $20/hour.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in grant writing and successful grant applications, with a track record of securing funding from diverse sources (experience working with startup organizations is preferred).
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting as it pertains to grant proposals.
- Familiarity with Minnesota nonprofit organizations and the grant-making process.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with partners.
- Participation in board meetings once/month remotely and occasionally in person.
