Hiring Range:
$71,624 - $85,948Hours: 40 hours per week
Devoted to emergency 911 police and fire telecommunications, non-emergency call taking, and police and fire dispatch communications. Incumbents serve as a second-level supervisor of an emergency communications operations center.
Responsible for assisting with the development of operational policies and procedures; participating in strategic and operational planning; providing direction to lower-level staff in the execution of operational tasks; maintaining staffing levels; scheduling employees and managing schedule adjustments; performing the duties of communications call-taking, processing, and dispatching as needed; maintaining records; and ensuring adherence to quality and performance standards.
Assists with the development of operational policies and procedures and participates in strategic and operational planning activities to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.Provides direction to lower-level staff in the execution of operational tasks; prioritizes and assigns work; develops and manages work schedules; provides guidance to staff; ensures adequate staffing levels and coverage; and ensures adherence to quality and performance standards.Prepares and maintains records, reports, and other documents; compiles and analyzes information about center operations; develops and makes operational recommendations; reviews work and the work of others to ensure accuracy and completeness.Maintains the center’s supply inventory; orders supplies; assists with resolving equipment problems and issues; and ensures that equipment, systems, and/or materials are in proper working conditions.Performs the duties of communications call-taking, processing, and dispatching as needed; answers 911 emergency and non-emergency calls; operates multi-line automatic call-distribution telephone and radio console systems; and dispatches and coordinating responders.Gathers and/or provides information and instructions to assist callers; refers calls to appropriate agencies; enters and updates data into computer-aided dispatch systems; and coordinates with multiple agencies to facilitate dispatching and referral.Performs quality assurance duties; evaluates 911 calls in accordance with accreditation standards; provides feedback to employees, reviews policies and procedures; and ensures that all operations performed comply with applicable policies and procedures.Coordinates with City departments and external agencies; represents the dispatch center in meetings and to the community.Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating scheduling of training, implementing hiring of internal positions related to operations within the 911 Center, and discipline and termination procedures.Associate’s degree
or equivalent
in business administration, criminal justice, or directly related field,Six years of emergency communications experiencePrevious Lead and/or supervisory experience. (3 years or more is strongly preferred)Associated Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) Telecommunication's Certification; OR must be willing and able to obtain within 6 months of start dateIAED EFD/EMD/EPD Certifications;American Heart Association CPR Certification.SBI Division of Criminal Information Terminal Operator's Certification as issued by the NC Department of Justice within six months of start date
