This is a part-time temporary position to support our Open Educational Resources in the library.
Position Title: Adjunct Librarian- Open Educational Resources
Description of Position:
The Diablo Valley College Library seeks a dynamic and collaborative Adjunct Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian to support the college’s efforts to reduce the cost of instructional materials and promote equitable access to education. The OER Librarian will assist faculty in identifying, adopting, adapting, and creating Open Educational Resources and Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials. This role involves providing specialized support for the college’s OER initiatives, engaging with faculty and staff, and contributing to the development of sustainable OER practices across disciplines. The OER librarian will also engage in a full range of reference, library instruction, collection development, and outreach activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with faculty to identify and adopt high-quality OER and ZTC materials for courses.
- Provide consultations and workshops on OER discovery, copyright, open licensing, and accessibility.
- Develop and maintain guides, toolkits, and resources to support OER adoption and creation using Canvas, LibGuides, and other digital platforms.
- Collaborate with the college’s OER/ZTC committee, library, and other stakeholders to advance the college’s textbook affordability goals.
- Participate in the development, delivery, and assessment of library instructional efforts for campus-based and distance education.
- Provide reference service to students, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Participate in the collection, development, and implementation of print and electronic information resources and services.
- Develop library collections in the assigned subject areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
In addition to contractual duties, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
- Knowledge of Open Educational Resources, open licensing (Creative Commons), and Zero Textbook Cost initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Familiarity with instructional design, accessibility standards, and universal design for learning principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
