About the Role:
The Associate Manager of Public Relations and Communications plays a pivotal role in executing and managing strategic PR initiatives designed to enhance the company's brand reputation, promote its products, and establish thought leadership within the competitive bioscience sector. This position requires proactive media engagement, compelling content creation, and effective campaign management to secure impactful coverage in relevant industry and mainstream media outlets. The Associate Manager will also contribute to crisis communication preparedness, cultivate key media relationships, and support internal communication efforts.
Core Expectations:
Media Relations & Outreach:
- Develop and execute proactive media outreach strategies, crafting compelling pitch angles for company announcements, product launches, research milestones, and thought leadership opportunities
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, editors, bloggers, and influencers within the bioscience and relevant business media landscapes
- Monitor the media landscape continuously, tracking company coverage, analyzing sentiment, and managing the organization's reputation across all media channels
- Contribute strategic planning and execution informed by analysis of market conditions, competitive positioning, and industry trends to refine PR approaches for initiatives including product launches, research communications, investor relations support, internal messaging, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs
- Author, edit, and manage the approval process for a variety of high-quality communication materials, including press releases, media pitches, backgrounders, fact sheets, blog posts, talking points, and executive communications
- Partner with Marketing and internal content teams to ensure consistent messaging, tone, and brand voice across all external communication platforms
- Lead the end-to-end execution of targeted media and PR campaigns, from conceptualization and planning through implementation and performance measurement
- Effectively manage internal and external resources allocated to campaigns, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets
- Engage and build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders across departments (e.g., R&D, Marketing, Legal, Investor Relations) to ensure PR strategies are aligned with business activities and to gather necessary information for communications
- Manage the day-to-day relationship and activities of external PR agency partners, ensuring strategic alignment, effective execution, and appropriate escalation to the Senior Director for review and key approvals
- Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for PR activities, utilizing metrics such as media placements, message pull-through, share of voice, media sentiment, and impact on web traffic
- A bachelor’s degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- At least 3-5 years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, with a strong track record of working in PR or marketing campaigns
- Experience managing media relationships and securing coverage across both traditional and digital platforms (TV, print, social media, blogs, etc.)
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, including press releases, media pitches, blog posts, and speeches, with an eye for detail and ability to adapt content to different formats
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers, with a history of successful media placements
- Ability to develop and execute PR strategies and campaigns that align with business goals and contribute to brand awareness, visibility, and reputation
- Experience managing multiple PR projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and handling fast-paced environments
- Familiarity with social media platforms and understanding of how to leverage these channels for PR purposes and audience engagement
- Experience using PR and media monitoring tools (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, Qwoted, Muckrack or similar platforms), preferably social monitoring tools like Tribe and marketing platform like GA4
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as required for business needs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, clients, and media representatives
- Interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as marketing, social media, and executives
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage PR crises or negative press, with a calm and strategic approach to resolving issues
- Proactive attitude, anticipating potential challenges in campaigns and developing solutions quickly
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Creative thinking to generate unique PR ideas and angles that capture media attention
- Ability to work under pressure, adapting to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment
