Overview
The Librarian is responsible for researching, purchasing, assessing, and disseminating instructional and reading material for the Dr. Fernando Escalante Tribal Library. The incumbent is responsible for collecting and managing informational literature, tribal literature, spoken or unwritten materials, and materials regarding the Tribe's cultural and historical development.
- Guide, assist, and instruct tribal community and library visitors in the research process and reference services.
- Develop and maintain a tribal archive, books, music, photographs.
- Catalog resources and materials.
- Independent and collaborative, decision-making concerning program development and delivery.
- Design and deliver instruction, training, and literacy programs for the tribal community through a variety of forums including course-integrated sessions, skill-based workshops, orientations, and special events.
- Create, implement, assess, and modify Library programs.
- Develop and/ or interpret library program policies and establish procedures.
- Build partnerships and collaborate with the tribal departments and outside resources.
- Collaborate in recruitment and diversity efforts by providing relevant instruction or orientation to potential students.
- Assess and evaluate programs to ensure continuous improvement
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

- Complexities of information and the processes by which information is created, acquired, and disseminated within specific discipline;

- Define and operate within fiscal parameters;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
- Catalog and inventory systems for tribal community libraries/resource centers;
- Detailed inventory and record keeping;
- Utilize software to develop resource material to promote tribal literacy;
- Delegate assignments and coordinating activities;
- Work independently;
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, peers and students, and tribal members;
- Maintain relationships with city, state, and tribal libraries and resource centers;
- Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Maintain confidentiality of information;
- Ability to apply and learn various software programs and apply them in the identification, retrieval, communication, manipulation, and presentation of information;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English or Yaqui/English preferred but not required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in removal from this position.
