Overview
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Review design briefs, assets, and scripts to determine requirements.• Accurately translate script text, images, and concepts into design layouts and media elements.• Create concepts to convey relevant content.• Generates conceptual drafts utilizing exhibition style guides and assets for review.• Convey concepts and edits both verbally and written prior to design implementation or editing artwork.• Create graphic design and production schedule, and material plans that align with project goals and budgets.• Generating storyboards, sample boards, prototypes, and proofs as required across various media.• Able to self-review to ensure accuracy in layouts, storyboards, graphic and media elements prior to presenting for review or production to avoid unneeded errors or omissions.• Coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, and colleagues as required.• Communicating with all stakeholders regarding the status of concepts, designs, layouts, budget alignment, and production schedules.• Maintains graphic printing and production equipment, supplies, and art room.• Liaison with Collection Lead to determine safe materials and methods for all objects displayed in an exhibition.• Liaison with Access Lead to determine suitable fonts, pt. size, installation details, and contrast levels for visitors with disabilities.• Must be a proactive problem solver that works well under pressure.• Able to work on 4+ projects concurrently.• Proficient in a wide range of design software, including but not limited to: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, Aftereffects AutoCAD, Intuiface, Wordpress, 3DS Max, and Sketchup. Working knowledge of Unity and Unreal Engine a plus.• Able to work on both Mac and PC based environments.• Proficient in physical graphic production, including but not limited to: Print, mounting, laminating, vinyl production, acrylic and foam fabrication, braille and tactile surface materials, laser production, installation of a wide range of elements, site condition assessment. Basic framing skills a plus.• Other duties as required by management and project demands.
Qualified candidates will have a BS/BA degree in graphic design or communication design from an accredited college, university, or equivalent with 2 years of graphic design and production experience in a museum environment or equivalent. Must be proficient in geometry and the use of various measuring devices.Must be self-motivated with good problem-solving, judgment, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
