JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, the Student Web Designer Assistant is responsible for developing, designing, and maintaining the University Student Union's (USU) website and for providing daily interaction and support for all marketing areas.
JOB DUTIES:
Assists with designing, maintaining and monitoring the USU website, including setting up additional pages and pop up windows as required
Assists with analyzing and providing suggestions regarding page layouts
Assists with designing site navigation prototypes for review and approval
Assists with designing, editing and enhancing images suitable for publishing over the Internet
Creates PDF (Portable Document Format) for forms, documents and/or large publications
Assists in providing technical advice and recommends hardware and software purchases as required to create, maintain, and publish Web data
Assists in creating weekly electronic newsletter sent by email
Aids the Web Designer with special projects as assigned
Assists in providing creative design, typesetting, and layout for brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, banners, and other forms of advertising
Effectively utilizes illustrations, photography, and clip art to enhance electronic material
Prepares charts, posters, signage, and maps
Assists graphic artists with projects when needed
Processes work orders, accurately logs project progress and records
Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
EXPERIENCE
Previous related experience and/or specialized education required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proven knowledge and ability in Web site and Graphic design
Proven knowledge and ability to hand code HTML and CSS
Knowledge of Javascript, PHP, and other scripting languages strongly preferred
Knowledge of creating Web sites that pass W3C standards and ADA compliance strongly preferred
Knowledge of working with a Windows server for Web uploads strongly preferred
Knowledge of current browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari)
Proven knowledge and ability in the use of Apple and Windows PC platforms, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, and Microsoft Office Programs
Leadership and organizational skills required
Ability to communicate effectively with others in English, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Willingness to work in a multicultural environment
Ability to work with others in a team environment
Typing or word processing skills strongly preferred

SUPERVISION:
Supervision is provided by the Marketing Manager.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
