**Position Summary:**
Southern Utah University seeks applications for a 9-month, tenure-track, benefits-eligible position as Assistant Professor of Illustration-Entertainment Arts starting Fall 2025. The role involves educating and mentoring students in visual storytelling techniques, principles, and history, preparing them for careers in creative industries. Responsibilities include developing curricula, overseeing student projects, and providing feedback to foster artistic growth.
The successful candidate will join a NASAD-accredited program in a multidisciplinary environment emphasizing creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and social responsibility. Faculty are encouraged to shape curriculum, engage in scholarly activities, and promote inclusion.
**Essential Functions:**
- Design and deliver lectures on illustration principles and techniques.
- Supervise student projects and provide critique.
- Mentor students academically and professionally.
- Stay updated on industry trends.
- Collaborate on curriculum development.
- Support career preparation and portfolio development.
- Participate in departmental activities.
- Engage in creative work or research.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
- Terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., MFA in Illustration).
- Significant professional experience in entertainment industry roles such as concept art, storyboarding, environment or character design.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in visual storytelling.
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools and workflows.
- Ability to contribute to curriculum development.
- Collaborative skills for working with diverse faculty and industry professionals.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
- Published work or notable achievements in entertainment industry projects.
- Proficiency in traditional and digital illustration techniques.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies like AR/VR or AI in entertainment illustration.
- Experience developing innovative curricula.
- Active involvement in professional organizations.
