POSITION SUMMARY :
This position will work on drafting and design of civil engineering projects utilizing Computer Aided Drafting programs and design software. Position will serve as a resource to other technicians by providing training, guidance and mentorship.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities :
- In coordination with a team of surveyors, project managers, engineers and technicians, performs complex drafting assignments and/or routine design assignments.
- Responsibilities will include everything from conceptual designs to completing drawings from rough sketches or interpretation of field notes.
- Includes transferring information from other team members into Computer Aided Drafting software programs and applying appropriate symbols and drafting standards to create a quality finished product.
- Conducts analysis relative to the project assigned, working with conventional engineering practice including a variety of complex features like conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Works with licensed surveyors on preparing plats of survey, subdivision plats, ALTA surveys, exhibits, topographic surveys, LiDAR extraction, and any other documentation needed for the survey crews.
- May work with field staff to complete documentation of field conditions for eventual reproduction in drawings.
- Interprets “as-built” and redline information and makes appropriate revisions to plans.
- Assists in the development, modification, and application of three-dimensional models in the appropriate design software.
- Administer basic calculations, guide and mentor other technicians.
- May assist in establishing budgets and preparing/presenting proposals.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge and abilities in AutoCAD software and design software systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Ability to lead, train, and mentor others.
- Highly detail-oriented with good math skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Strong organizational skills and excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading.
- Good time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline-driven workload.
- Ability to work independently and also in a team of professionals.
- Results-focused with the ability to embrace new technology and processes.
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. 2-year technical degree in design and drafting or civil engineering technology preferred.
Experience : 8+ years drafting/design experience required. Civil 3D required. AutoCAD and MS Office knowledge/experience preferred. Experience using Microstation, GEOPAK, or Plant 3D are also preferred.
This position will have minimal travel. Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other company locations, attending seminars or business meetings. Minimum travel is 10-25% of the time depending on projects.
