Position: K-8 Music Teacher (Shared-Time) Employer: Brighton Public Schools (Placement at Saint John Vianney Catholic School in Wyoming, MI) Job Type: Long-Term Substitute or Permanent 24-25 Schedule: Tuesdays: 8:30 AM - 11:00 AM Wednesdays: 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM Position Overview: Brighton Public Schools is seeking a passionate and qualified K-8 Music Teacher for a shared-time position at Saint John Vianney Catholic School in Wyoming, MI. This role is ideal for educators who love inspiring young musicians and fostering a love of music in students from kindergarten through 8th grade. We are open to either a long-term substitute or a permanent hire for this position. Responsibilities: Develop and implement engaging music lessons for students in grades K-8. Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation. Introduce students to a variety of musical styles, instruments, and vocal techniques. Prepare students for potential performances, concerts, or school events. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and creativity. Collaborate with school staff and administration to align music curriculum with educational goals. Qualifications (Per State of Michigan Requirements): Candidates must meet the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) qualifications for teaching music. Requirements include: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a JX (Music Education K-12) or JQ (Instrumental and Vocal Music K-12) Endorsement - OR eligibility for an interim or substitute permit. A bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited institution. Knowledge of Michigan's music education standards and curriculum. Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students (preferred). Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to engage and motivate students of varying skill levels and backgrounds. Compliance with state, district, diocesean and school background check requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with both vocal and instrumental music instruction. Familiarity with Orff, Kodly, or other music education methodologies. Previous experience in a shared-time or private school setting.
