About Us: The City of Glendale's Economic Development Department provides business owners assistance to get their business up and running in our amazing city. This talented team of professionals will help define market niches within the community, assist in selecting a suitable business site, and even introduce business owners to the appropriate real estate professionals and property owners. The Economic Development Department offers numerous resources such as the Small Business Guide , the Locals Guide , and information on Targeted Industries .
The Role: Responsible for maintaining the department's websites; creating, scheduling and deploying content across all tourism social media channels. This position requires knowledge of social media and website maintenance, with strong abilities in content creation, writing and design to promote Glendale attractions as a leisure and business destination to international, national and regional visitors.
Salary :
- This position is a grade 315, and is FLSA Non-exempt
- The salary for this role is $51,514.98 - $81,772.86 annually.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:
- The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.
- Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year), and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, and to 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).
Retirement: This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.27%.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a robust, interactive website and a variety of microsites that engage visitors and planners and achieves established performance goals.
- Produces content for all social media platforms including posts and captivating photos and videos for community engagement across several divisions within the Department of Economic Development.
- Continuous monitoring of sites, including maintaining event submissions, creating and updating content, and managing business listings.
- Develops and executes social media campaigns to attract visitors and create overnight stays, drive retail activity and generate online and media engagement; analyzes, measures and reports on effectiveness of social media campaigns.
- Develops online contests and creative content for blogs, as well as requests for content from news outlets, magazines and other content producers; engages with fans and followers.
- Drafts content for external communications, blogs, and social networking platforms that supports the overall marketing program of work and is audience specific, created according to branding guidelines, and includes trending tourism industry topics.
- Maintains social media content calendar and provides monthly editorial calendars.
- Establishes and oversees electronic communication to industry partners to build interest and support for marketing programs, including production of monthly e-newsletters for visitors, members and stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains promotional relationships with the Arizona Office of Tourism, Meetings Publications, Travel & Trade memberships and regional partners to share information and promote Glendale and the West Valley attractions as a leisure and business destination on industry tourism sites.
- Evaluates emerging technologies and brings new ideas forward.
- Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final posts and websites as well as ensuring inclusion of bureau partners and key marketing programs as directed.
- Maintains and administers all legal Internet domains and security certificates owned by the CVB and Economic Development department.
- Creates web content standards to ensure web site content is consistent with the department’s destination marketing campaign and brand strategy; guides staff and users to adhere to guidelines and ensures that all Internet standards are met for all digital content and the domains purchased for the CVB and Economic Development department.
- Creates and manages social media assets including photography and video content for relevant posting and social media storytelling as it relates to Glendale; manages and expands Glendale's database of high definition digital photos and videos and develops a system for collecting, cataloging and sharing photos.
- Assists with the operation of the Glendale Visitor Center, Special Events and Arts and Culture.
- Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
- Participates in public relations and publicity functions for the Economic Development department, the city and valley-wide special events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- One year of recent experience in social media and digital content programming.
- Bachelor's degree in tourism, business administration, marketing, or related field required.
- Experience in major CMS platforms, Adobe Creative Suite and HTML preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of digital marketing and customer service.
- Web user interface design.
- Current web technology, protocols and practices.
Skill in:
- Troubleshooting computer software problems.
- Creating design documents that accurately reflect business needs.
Ability to:
- Market tourism destinations.
- Research, interpret and analyze data and prepare reports with recommendations.
- Present material in a clear, concise and logical manner both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with city employees, local business and hospitality industry representatives.
- Operate a personal computer and related software and applications.
- Communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.

- Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Learn job related material primarily through oral instruction and observation which takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.

- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
