Job Description

The College of Journalism and Communications and WUFT News at the University of Florida is seeking a Social Media Strategist to join our dynamic editorial team. We are looking for an exceptional Social Media Strategist to develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with our brand objectives, engages our audience, and drives business results for the college's professional media platforms including but not limited to WUFT News, Noticias WUFT, WRUF and FPREN.
As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing a social media strategy that aligns with organizational goals and objectives (e.g. increase followers, drive website traffic, generate leads).
- Creating and curating high-quality, engaging journalistic content across multiple social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
- Identifying, monitoring, and reporting on social media analytics, critical tracking metrics, and insights.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (news, marketing, communications, administrators) to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation across all channels/platforms.
- Identifying and prioritizing trends, best practices, and industry insights to stay up to date with the latest social media developments.
- Managing social media advertising spend and optimizing campaigns for maximum ROI.
- Providing social media training and support to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Supervising student assistants and/or students tasked with social media content creation.
- Participating in daily and long-term news planning meetings.
- Collaborating with leadership and operations teams of individual television and radio stations.
The Social Media Strategist position is based in the College's Innovation News Center.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with social media account management, particularly for a media/journalism outlet.
- Experience with social media brand development and marketing.
- Understanding of how to create and execute a data- and analytics-driven social media organizational plan.
- Ability to work with various teams across various disciplines, including supervision and training of students and other staff.
- Expertise in social media content creation tools and software (Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products, Canva, Social News Desk).
- Proficiency in newsroom operating & planning systems (like ENPS, NewsBoss, AP Playbook).
- Content creation experience on social media apps (like Facebook, Instagram, X, Snapchat, YouTube).
- Familiarity with newsroom tools (like Osmo, Mevo, Descript, LiveU & Comrex, etc.).
