Primary Job Goal:
To effectively manage a library/media program which provides media resources, facilities and services supporting curriculum design, alignment and delivery in all areas of the instructional program.
Performance Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate the building media committeeImplement media policies and standards by:Recommending building policies and implementation
b. Assisting teachers in designing and developing instructional materials
c. Recommending media and technology based on the needs of the instructional program and the individual users.
d. Planning with the instructional staff to integrate media skills instruction with classroom content
e. Producing locally designed materials for, and with, students and instructional staffManage and insure accessibility to media resources, equipment, and facilities by:a. Selecting media based on the unique needs of the instructional program and the individual user
b. Coordinating the acquisition, processing, organization, circulation, maintenance and inventory resources
c. Incorporating technology into media management functions in order to minimize time required for routine activities and insure maximum access to resources evaluating media services with administrative and instructional staff and modifying as appropriate
d. Evaluating media services with administrative and instructional staff and modifying as appropriate
e. Informing users of media center services and resources
Maintain awareness of new developments in technology and provide relevant information to teachers and administrators by:a. Planning and providing media and technology related staff development activities for teachers
b. Implementing and evaluating the utilization of instructional innovations and related educational technology
c. Assisting students and teachers in using new technologies
Communicate and coordinate media programs and services by:a. Informing the principal, on a regular basis, about media program objectives, needs and outcomesb. Conferring with and assisting the media coordinator in planning the building media programc. Developing media budget proposals based on recommendation of the building media committeed. Interpreting the media program to students, faculty and administratione. Cooperating with other information and education agenciesf. Providing access to resources available through other local agencies or individuals by maintaining a community resource fileAdhere to federal copyright law/guidelines and system policy by:a. Planning procedures with media committee and informing the school community
b. Providing non-state supplied instructional materials in accord with the federal copyright law/guidelines and system policy
c. Erasing state-provided video programs as directed by Division of Instructional Media Services; erasing other programs in accord with copyright guidelines
Assist in selection of media center paraprofessionals or aidesSupervise individuals and small groups of students when using the media centerCreate and foster a climate that motivates effective utilization of mediaSeek opportunities to increase professional skills through:a. Reading, study and staff development activities
b. Participating in professional media and educational organizations
Local system requirements:a. Participate in staff development as the Troup County Board of Education may deem necessary
b. Comply with any reasonable job related request of an administrative supervisor.
c. Implements system/school professional learning practices as outlined in the School Improvement Plan
Professional Development plan:a. Fulfill the requirements of the professional development if a required PDP has been developed

Other Functions:Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit may be met.
Working Environment:The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 10% lifting/carrying and 80% standing/walking.
