For external candidates, official transcripts will be required if you are recommended for the position. Your degree must be from an accredited university. If the position does not require a college degree, you are required to have at least a high school diploma. Candidates with academic training and degrees granted outside the U.S. must submit a credential evaluation report that includes a statement of degree equivalency from an accredited agency in the U.S.

Occupational Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Officer, the Office of Information Technology is responsible for the administration of the computer operations, and overall Technology Management or OIT Office Complex Buildings and Ancillary Facilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintains production and operational standards to successfully satisfy the data processing needs of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Responsible for the recruitment, training, assignment and evaluation of all personnel in computer operations.
Organizes department and staff for maximum production.
Plans and organizes for safety and security of personnel and facility.
Reviews and approves all procedures for operations.
Reviews and monitors control and operational standards.
Plans and prepares budget for the operations department.
Reviews production reports and allocates resources to obtain maximum utilization.
Reviews all systems before programming as to scheduling and standards.
Interprets Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ policy pertaining to operations.
Sets policies for the department. Schedules, sets procedures and distributes computerized personnel budget and other reports used in negotiations by management.
Interacts with UTD, AFSCME, and DCSMEC bargaining unit representatives to resolve personnel conflicts, recommends contract changes and amendments to respective bargaining unit committees.
Reviews technical publications and researches new techniques and technologies for providing improved, efficient, and automated administrative computing services.
Conducts technical and support discussions to improve the performance of vendors of data processing products.
Assists in preparing Board Agenda items, written memoranda, letters to vendors, makes presentations to the Information Technology Management Advisory Panel and Senior Staff, as necessary to obtain resources and the approval to implement projects for OIT and Computer Operations.
Approves administrative computing purchases to ensure that equipment complies with support standards and district computing practices.
Develops high standards for technical assistance and support to schools and administrative offices to improve the flow of communication, office automation, clerical and administrative productivity.
Supervises a wide variety of day-to-day operations and maintenance of all physical plans in the OIT office complex and ancillary facilities.
Coordinates building renovations and other projects through the Office of Facility Operations and approved contractors/vendors.
Identifies and provides correction of safety violations as defined by the Department of Safety.
Facilitates activation of the District’s Disaster Recovery Procedures and Business Continuity Plan.
Performs other duties as related to general administrative responsibilities of the position.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, mobility, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
Five (5) years supervisory experience in a computer operations department with three shifts working 6 or 7 days a week with an MVS operating system environment.
Extensive knowledge of data processing hardware and software, systems, documentation requirements, data processing applications, and system design as evidenced by training and job related experience.
