Director of Public Relations & Communications
position is now available via The Keller Group in the Greater Phoenix Arizona Area. This hybrid role (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) is ideal for an experienced public relations professional with a strong background in education communications, media relations, and institutional storytelling. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Director will lead a growing PR & communications team, develop national and regional awareness initiatives, and help elevate the organization’s reputation as a leader in the education sector. The ideal candidate will bring approximately 10 years of public relations experience, ideally with time spent in education or multi-location institutions. This is a key leadership role focused on both high-level PR strategy and day-to-day execution. Director of PR & Communications Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations strategy aligned with organizational goals. Manage and grow relationships with top-tier media outlets, journalists, and influencers. Oversee press releases, interviews, and media appearances to ensure brand alignment. Secure consistent and positive national and regional media placements. Act as the organization’s primary liaison for external media and communications. Expand relationships with emerging media outlets and digital publications. Lead day-to-day crisis communication efforts in collaboration with individual school sites. Assess and improve PR campaign effectiveness using metrics and analytics. Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing and school leadership teams. Supervise a team of two and growing. Director of PR & Communications Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. Approx. 10 years of experience in public relations, including leadership experience. Previous experience working within education or charter school networks strongly preferred. Knowledge of AP style and journalism principles. Demonstrated success securing media placements and managing press relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with PR tools such as PR Newswire and comfort interfacing with reporters. Proficient in digital and social media strategy. Ability to lead and motivate teams as well as thrive in a hybrid work environment with occasional travel. Proactive, strategic thinker with the ability to operate independently and collaboratively.
