SUPERVISOR AVP of Editorial Strategy & Programming
BASIC FUNCTION
To communicate information to TMA members via researching, writing, and editing articles for Texas Medicine magazine, Texas Medicine Today newsletter, TMA website, and other print and digital publications and communications projects.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS
Research and write stories, features, infographics, and other items as assigned for Texas Medicine, TMA's monthly magazine, covering public health, practice management, socioeconomics, legal, medical education, and other topics driven by TMA's mission and agenda.Edit and proofread assigned stories and sections of Texas Medicine.Research, write, edit, proofread articles as assigned for Texas Medicine Today, TMA's daily membership newsletter.Consult with TMA staff to develop and discuss Texas Medicine and Texas Medicine Today stories.Attend meetings in other TMA divisions to gain background knowledge for stories.Meet with AVP of Editorial Strategy & Programming to discuss editorial and production calendars, story development, and editorial direction for Texas Medicine, Texas Medicine Today, and other communications campaigns.Meet with managing editors to discuss copy and deadlines.Contribute story and art ideas to content pitch meetings.Assist with operations/print and digital production of Texas Medicine, Texas Medicine Today, and editorial services.Consult with other divisions/departments on communications matters and assist staff with editorial services related to TMA membership and advocacy campaigns.Attend/participate in TMA conferences.Work with marketing and web teams to promote stories and other TMA communications materials via social media and web.Assist TMA members over the phone and in person with requests for information.Attend trainings and workshops to improve professional skills.Perform other related duties as directed or required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
General supervision of reporter, temporary support staff.
INDEPENDENCE/SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Duties are performed independently to achieve assigned objectives; however, methods and procedures may not be specifically defined. Employee may be required to develop or research appropriate methods and procedures to be used.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Experience:
Requires concentrated understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge. Knowledge required is normally equivalent to the attainment of bachelor's degree and several years (i.e., 5-10 years) professional journalism work experience.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to deal effectively with other TMA employees. Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks. Ability to plan work that requires evaluating facts to determine courses of action and deal effectively with members. Superior writing skills required. Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment. Previous association work helpful.
