Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Under the directive of the Sr. Designer, this candidate will help with creative research and concepting of creative ideas in accordance with seasonal line plans specific to footwear development; concept presentation should include last research, vintage research, swatches/mockup developments, material research, sketches, drapes where applicable and fabric manipulation. All designs presented should consider finishes, trims, closures and branding as needed. Bridge the gap between design and development team to ensure seamless communication and collaboration throughout the product development cycle. Create technical spec for factories and ensure accurate and clear communication to support the development process. Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and ensure all design documentation is delivered to development partners on time. Come up with creative solutions to overcome challenges that arise during the development process. Create seasonal concepts, material proposals, and new ideas, bringing fresh perspective and high-quality execution to the collection with a creative vision. Work cross-functionally to ensure the seasonal concept is effectively and strategically translated into the collection, and proactively partner with the Merchandising team to ensure the collection meets market needs while staying aligned with our brand identity. Refine/animate the core footwear styles as needed. Maintain design integrity throughout the entire product development process, from concept to market sample and production – ensuring the final product stays true to the brand’s DNA. Prepare tech packs for all styles together with PD. Prioritize developments in accordance with overseas deadlines; work with PD to ensure all necessary information is passed and communicated to overseas factories. Keep in close communication with PD to ensure developments are proceeding according to plan and present solutions where necessary. Delegate and prioritize design workflow with the assistant designer, intern and liaise with cross-functional PD to ensure all design details are communicated accurately. Ensure all last, heel, upper, insole, footbed, trim, material, and construction information are present. Partner with Designer to name and set up all styles in the system inclusive of product descriptions and accurate sketches. Follow and update all design changes systematically. Support Sr. Designer in preparation of design meetings and follow through on updating all design collateral as needed when changes occur. Actively update and communicate on all changes for design boards. Prepare updated information on all design developments for weekly design ops meetings. Participate in pre-fitting all prototypes prior to proto review with the intention of making improvements and preparing solutions. Support Sr. Designer in preparation of all proto review meetings; making sure that all styles have been assessed and considered. If necessary, prepare solutions or supplemental ideas/concepts that are in accordance with the seasonal line plan. Communicate SMS launch by style and SKU to PD and ensure design boards and system are updated to reflect launched styles. Responsible for checking all final footwear samples upon arrival and working with the design team to make any necessary adjustments. Support Sr. Designer in preparation of all styling meetings; making sure that all final footwear samples are present and organized in order of the line sheet. Prepare any supplemental design materials needed for style out. Participate in all necessary production fittings. Ensure design integrity and all fit comments are considered and communicated efficiently. Liaise with PD and production to maintain aesthetic and production viability through to the customer. Analyze, leverage, and integrate sales and bookings data to inform ongoing and future designs. Work on any additional projects as requested by the Sr. Designer or above. Position Requirements: BA or BFA specialized in footwear. 2-3 years’ experience in footwear line builder or designer capacity. Detailed flat sketching skills. Detailed knowledge of shoe making and construction. Strong knowledge of factory resources and capabilities. Familiar with fabric mills and leather tanneries in order to source appropriate materials. Strong knowledge of material capabilities as applied to footwear. Excellent ability to communicate design intent through tech packs and communication to suppliers. Excellent time management and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines. Excellent communication skills. Strong ability to present ideas. Strong Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills. Enthusiasm to bring new energy into the design process. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer M/D/F/V. In compliance with the New York City salary transparency requirements, the potential salary for this position is from $90,000 to $100,000, which represents a range commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills required.
