Job Description
This position assists with the marketing and promotion of books published by the State University System Press (University Press of Florida), which number up to 80 new books per year and over 3,000 backlist titles. The marketing assistant works on marketing and publicity campaigns for specific books, helps create content for Press external communications, and assists the sales and marketing team with a variety of tasks that support the functioning of the team. This position requires strong skills in organization, prioritization, and time management. Excellent writing skills are essential.
This is a full-time position eligible for benefits including health and dental insurance and paid time off. Presence in Florida is preferred. A hybrid in-person/remote work schedule is possible. This position attends occasional local author events and in-state book festivals as a Press representative.
Book Marketing and Publicity Assistance 50%
Drafts marketing copy, social media content, and email marketing projects;
Solicits advance praise (blurbs) for books;
Researches, organizes, and develops media contact lists;
Assists in implementing book publicity campaigns;
Maintains Press author events calendar and helps promote upcoming events;
Assists in coordinating the Press social media content calendar and posts content on WordPress, X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads;
Plans and prepares content for monthly reading lists and other thematic promotions;
Maintains Press website with excerpts from reviews received and other publicity highlights;
Processes and regularly reports media coverage for Press books;
Attends occasional local author events and in-state book festivals as a Press representative.
Marketing Department Support 30%
Corresponds with authors, customers, media, vendors/partners, event venues, and others, and fulfills requests in a timely and professional manner;
Researches sales and marketing leads;
Handles assorted clerical duties, including collection of author marketing questionnaires, mailing, filing, and data entry;
Performs other duties as assigned, which may include book exhibit preparation, submitting books to award programs, and assisting with course adoption promotions.
Press Communications Assistance 20%
Assists in drafting and implementing Press external communications, including biannual newsletters and other campaigns for stakeholders;
Assists in planning and creating the Press’s monthly e-newsletters;
Drafts press releases to announce Press and staff news;
Assists in the promotion of publishing symposiums and other events hosted by the Press.
Expected Salary:
$15.00
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Writes clearly and engagingly for a variety of audiences (e.g. marketing copy, press releases, and blog posts).
Strong skills in organization, prioritization, and time management.
Works both independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
