St. Thomas More Catholic Church/School, Brooklyn, OHSt. Thomas More Parish & School in Brooklyn is seeking a Director of Music Ministry for the parish and Music Teacher for the school. The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for serving the liturgical and sacramental encounters of our parish. He/She will create an environment that celebrates the beauty of the Church’s liturgical and musical heritage by serving at weekend Masses, Weddings, Funerals, Holy Hours of Eucharistic Adoration, school liturgies, and other liturgical events.Ministry Expectations:Serve as a member of Parish Staff.Attend all staff meetings and liturgical planning meetings.Prepare and provide music for all liturgical celebrations which includes Masses on weekends and holy days.Recruit, coordinate, and direct choirs: traditional, contemporary, children’s, and funeral choirs.Promote and maintain a cantor program, including training and practice.Expand engagement of parishioners to include instrumentalists.Hire and schedule accompanying musicians.Collaborate in the planning of prayer services, weddings, and funerals.Help ensure the proper operation of musical instruments and sound systems.Provide for maintenance of parish musical instruments.Provide for maintenance of church sound system.Prepare and manage the budget for parish music programs.Have a knowledge and command of technology, especially services that provide music programs and desktop publishing programs.Maintain appropriate copyright licensing.Schedule servers, lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers.Work with the school administrative staff to effectively instruct students in musical theory and skills, serving as part-time Music Teacher in the school providing instruction 1.5 days/week.Be in compliance with the Safe Environment policies mandated by the Diocese of Cleveland.Secure coverage for any absence due to illness or pre-arranged time off.Other duties as shown to be necessary that ensures and increases musical appreciation, as a vehicle in growing as a faith community.Skills and Experience:A deep understanding of the Catholic faith as well as a commitment to living and growing that faith authentically in his or her own life.A degree or equivalent certification in a musical discipline.Proficiency in playing piano and organ. Playing additional musical instruments is most welcomed and desired.Vocal proficiency and the ability to train others in this.Relevant professional or ministerial experience.Experience leading volunteer singers or musicians in liturgical settings.Leadership skills that encourage others to follow and grow with you.Knowledge of the Church’s liturgical calendar, our sacred music heritage, and administering in a parochial setting.A pastoral approach when interacting with others.Work and Physical Expectations:Flexible availability including weekdays, weekends, and evenings.Need to be able to sing and perform musical instruments for extended periods of time.Work is performed in an office environment as well as in the church.
