SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Design Drafter II position performs basic design of underwater tools and equipment, diving systems, and remote operated vehicles (ROVs) and develops CAD models and drawings. Work performed supports U.S. Navy and commercial customers' operational requirements. Provides review of Design Drafter I work. This position is located in Largo, MD and reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT (HOURLY) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Create and maintain 3-D models in SolidWorks for components and assemblies of tools and equipment within a team environment.* Create and maintain drawings and documentation using industry and Phoenix standards for government and commercial customers within a team environment.* Prepare documentation and data for entry in product data management software.* Check and review drawings and documentation of other design draftsmen.* Comply with established Phoenix QMS processes and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Five years of experience in SolidWorks or similar 3-D solid modeling software.* Seven years of experience in design of electro-mechanical systems.* Advance proficiency with software productivity tools, drawing layout, dimensioning, plotting, and scale factors.* Proficient in tolerancing specifically geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, layout of drawing trees, configuration management, bill of materials, and drawing review.* Familiarity with fabrication processes including welding, cutting, drill press, milling machine, CNC, lathe, SLA/SLS, fasteners, soldering, and wiring.* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.* Special design knowledge of hydraulics, pressure seals, or FRP a plus.* Motivated self-starter able to synthesize all aspects of a design.* Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.* Mechanical or machine shop experience desired.* Experience with OrCAD schematic capture program desired.* Some travel may be required.* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check, as required.
